Kind of an odd question but here goes. I’m just wondering if Cats and Dogs are affected by certain common human medicines and if they are affected negatively or positively. I did a few google searches and searches on a few cat/dog advice sites but nothing like what I was looking for.

I’m asking partially to find out if they get into something do i need to run them to the hospital , and also asking if any simple household medicines can be used to treat common symptoms in cats/dogs.

Things like tylenol, opiate painkillers(mainly are they very dangerous, my mom often drops pills behind couches and on the floor and doesnt find them),. cough medicine, pepto, etc. I’ve heard some people give their dogs/cats baby tylenol for arthritis and other similar pain problems but is that really healthy? Basically any common meds that one might have in a household.

I have a 12 year-old long-haired cat who recently had a urinary tract infection. She was treated and is now healed of the UTI. She also had trouble with her left hind leg and the vet put her on Cosequin, once a day, for arthritis. She has now been on that pill for about two weeks. During the past few days I’ve noticed these miniscule scabs on her face — one on her nose and one on either cheek. She does not have fleas and is not around other cats or animals, so no one to fight with. I wouldn’t think they were ringworm as they are so small (about the size of a pencil point) and they are not perfectly round. She does not seem bothered by them at all and is acting as normal as ever. I stopped giving her the Cosequin as of this morning, thinking it may have something to do with that. Any ideas on what it might be?

My 16 yr old cat Kelsie suffers from arthritis. I tried Cosequin for cats. It was ok, but she was still in pain. After some research and talking with a vet tech, I refuse to but her on vet prescribed meds at this time due to the side effects. Arthritis has been her ONLY illness, other than a bad tooth that had to be removed. She’s done wonderful for her age. Anyway, I tried Syn-flex because I read that it controls the pain better. It is safe for cats, dogs, horses and people, with almost no side effects. Kelsie is doing GREAT. She is playing again and is so much happier and has been on it over a month. I put this “question” in because I wanted others who have cats with joint problems to know about it. I looked for a long time before I found it. My husband takes it too, and really likes it. It costs about $28 for a bottle.

She never went pee or poo on the carpet in all of the 10 years that I have had her. We have moved to many different houses, and never did she do this until our new house we have been in for two months.

She can see, doesn’t have arthritis and still goes 50% of the time in the litter box. She prefers three spots in a particular room- but will go in other rooms as well. I have used products from Petco that supposedly break down the scent and take stains away, doesn’t work. I have tried a product called No- Go that supposedly smells like garlic and cats don’t like it. Forget about it. I have tried layers of baking soda. She goes right on top of it.

What on God’s green Earth can I do. Help PLEASE.

My cat is 16 years old and in pretty good health (only a little arthritis to report which we are treating quite well with Cosequin, FYI). However, lately she has been exhibiting some strange behavior. For example, she has been sleeping in strange places, i.e. the dog’s bed and inside the dog’s crate. She has her own fluffy bed so I don’t get it. Also, her and the dog don’t particularly get along well so I can’t imagine that she would want to nuzzle down for a nap in his bed. Moreover, she’s never been a big fan of crates so this type of behavior has me a little worried. Is this the first signs of senility or is she just telling me she wants a new bed?

My cat , Jaz , is fourteen years old. He’s had arthritis for a couple years. He wants to sleep in a dark quiet spot most of the day and night. I’ve noticed his fur seems very sparse, and he sheds alot when I brush him. His whiskers are even broken off on one side….His appetite is normal, he has a little potbelly, but I can feel his bones. He doesn’t groom himself like he used to, but when he does quite a bit of fur is licked off. I have two younger kitties also. They seem fine. Do you think a medicated shampoo is enough?

Thanks, Linda K.
